IMO Model Course 1.27 - Operational Use of ECDIS


THE OBJECTIVES OF:

    This course equips participants with the necessary competency to safely operate the ECDIS system. Course participants understand the data functions, capabilities and limitations of the system.


ENTRY REQUIREMENT:

    1. Be not less than 18 years of age;
    2. Hold a Certificate of Competency as a Navigating Officer or at least have a minimum sea service of 6 months as deck cadet.
    3. Have adequate working knowledge of English (spoken &written) and
    4. Have basic computer skills.

    • Errors in Displayed Data
    • Errors of Interpretation
    • Status Indications, Indicators and Alarms
    • Documentation
    • Integrity Monitoring
    • Back Up
    • Risk of Over - reliance on ECDIS
