Course Overview

The Tripartite Maritime Training Award (TMTA) is a career development programme that prepares Singaporeans and Permanent Residents to join the maritime industry and pursue their aspirations as Marine Engineers onboard ocean-going ships.

The Tripartite Maritime Training Award (Engine) Training Programme, aka Phase 3, is a preparatory course for students before they take their Certificate of Competency Class 5 Marine Engineer Officer examinations. They will attend full-time classroom-based training and practical lessons for six months, covering a series of modules listed below. The course is in accordance with the provisions of regulation III/1.2 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 (STCW 1978).

Bite-sized e-learning nuggets and quizzes form the bulk of the course material for teaching and learning. These e-learning nuggets promote differentiated learning for students with diverse backgrounds. The course leverages on the use of technology for teaching, learning and assessment, with hands on simulator exercises in the Full Mission Engine Room Simulator. The course is facilitated by senior practitioners in their pursuit of knowledge, skills, and safe working practices required in the industry.

5. Simulator-Methanol Bunkering

6. Engine Room Watchkeeping, Safety and Emergency Procedures

7. Integrated Control

8. Electrotechnology II

9. Interpretation Of Shipboard Drawings

10. Basic Workshop Practice II(Welding)

11. Ship Powering & Construction

12. MLC/Maritime legislation II

13. Engineering Science

14. Engineering Mechanics

15. Engineering Thermodynamics

16. Industrial Chemistry

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

· Certificate of Completion in Tripartite Maritime Training Award (Engine) Pre-Sea Preparation Training Course

· Certificate of Completion in Tripartite Maritime Training Award (Engine) Distance Learning Programme (Shipboard Training)

 

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Most modules consist of 20% module assessment, 20% tutorial and 60% end of module written examinations. To successfully complete the training, students must obtain the minimum passing mark of 60% for all modules. For modules with only in module course assessment, the passing mark is 50%.

Upon successful completion of the training, students will be issued the following documents:

· Transcript of Results
